Armstrong made BGA honorary secretary

Following the appointment, Armstrong said: “I am delighted to have been accepted for the position of Honorary Secretary of the British Geotechnical Association. The association is hugely influential within the sphere of geotechnical engineering, both in the UK and internationally, and plays a crucial role in relation to training and professional development. I look forward to promoting innovation and best practice to help the industry move forward in these exciting times.”

Having joined the BGA as a member last year, Armstrong was appointed following interview and recommendation to the executive committee.

A spokesperson for Fugro said, “Armstrong brings 40 years’ professional experience to the three-year role, including 25 years working on innovative and leading edge ground investigation projects with Fugro.
 
“Armstrong joined Fugro in 1992 as a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, moving up to Engineering and Reporting Manager in 2015. His current responsibilities include the technical execution and delivery of drilling and ground investigation projects in the UK and Europe, together with team management, technical quality, and skills development.”

The BGA specialises in the application of soil mechanics, rock mechanics and geology to engineering, instigating discussion on industry issues and providing technical seminars and input to training development.  As well as consulting on industry standards and contributing to peer-reviewed publications, the association is influential in the international ground engineering arena.
